Quad’s Best of the Internet #16!

November 29, 2013 in Quad

                                            It’s Friday!

3-celebration

As is tradition, each and every Friday, we like to round up our favourite Internet findings from the week gone. So get a cuppa, sit back, relax and indulge yourself in this week’s Best of the Internet!

I think this week we’ll start with something which was destined to go viral. Last week we saw Channing Tatum parodying Volvo and Claude Van Damme, well this week we have Seth Rogan and James Franco absolutely burning Kanye West in this hilarious parody of Kanye’s video for his track, Bound 2.

Next up are these incredible works of art by makeup artist Valeriya Kutsan and retouching expert Veronica Ershova. Photographed by Moscow-based photographer Alexander Khokhlov , the collection outlines the visually transformative power of  paint and makeup. Surreal Painted Faces

Staying on the arty theme, this next video encompasses two of my favourite things, awesomely shot video and street art. Orchestrated by street artist Sofles, it really showcases some great talent on the scene.

And now for our viral of the week! If you’ve not seen this video at some point in the last few days then chances are that you live under a rock somewhere far, far away… It’s normally accepted that if a video gets one million plus hits in around a week or so then it can be classed as viral. So how does over 40 MILLION in FOUR DAYS sound? Also it’s hilarious… Enjoy!

Next up is a collection of photographs by Swedish photographer and retoucher,  Erik Johansson . Abolsutely incredible retouching skills. Click the image to see the full collection!

Lastly this week we have the greatest live tweet / note passing exchange that has ever taken place. I’m not going to give it any more introduction over than that. I can only assure you that it’ll be the greatest thing you’ve read all day. It all started like this… (Click the image to see the full article)

That’s it for this week, which can only mean one thing… It’s nearly the weekend! Look around you at all your colleagues squirming in their swivel chairs doing their best to look busy. In just a few hours they’ll be bowling down Dean Street with a bottle vodka in their hand before falling head first down the stairs in Soho Arts Club… Good old Friday!

                                              It’s Friday!

crazy-celebration

As is tradition, each Friday we like to share some of our favourite findings from our week on the web. This week we’re fairly video focused, so grab a cup of tea and sit back for a bit. You deserve it!

If you enjoy our best of the Internet posts then you should probably head over to our and give that a like too!

This week we’ll start with this great piece of marketing by British Airways. It’s not quite reached viral status as I’m sure they were hoping it would, just over 100,000 hits and weirdly only 15 comments, but it’s worth a watch anyway!

Next up is an awesome and creative way to pass the time when your other half is in hospital and also makes a great welcome home gift for when they return! Click the image to see the full collection.

Welcome home darling

Next up is something I’m sure everyone has already seen, but there’s no way it couldn’t be included! It is of course Volvo and Claude Van Damme’s epic split.

And now the first week’s stats… I think it’s safe to say the campaign was successful!

1476603_09991700_6_n

With a campaign of this size, you can guarantee there’ll be spoofs. Normally there’ll be by an unknown person with a bit of spare time on a Saturday afternoon, OR in this case by Channing Tatum on the set of 22 Jump Street…

Most people have Facebook friends they’ve never actually met, but still know plenty about them because pictures of thier kids keep popping up on your newsfeed. Imagine if you actually went to their house and met them in real life, what would happen? Greg Benson found out…

Time for a quick break to find the invisible cow… GO!

And now this cat GIF which should definitely be a real thing…

I think we’ll finish this week with this. There’s absolutely no reason for it, except that it’s had 10 million hits on YouTube and will make you feel good… in a weird spun out kind of way. ENJOY!

That’s your lot for this week, which can mean only one thing… It’s nearly the weekend! See all those people sitting around you lazily swinging on their swivel chairs, pretending to crunch numbers into that spreadsheet? In a few hours there’ll all be in Oceana out of their minds on WKD, skanking to that shocking new Kanye track.

Quad’s Best of the Internet #14!

                                           It’s Friday!

woohoo-leo

As is tradition, on each and every Friday, we like to round up our favourite discoveries from our week on the web. Thought provoking, funny, absurd, tear jerking, we’ve got them all! Let us begin…

This week we’ll start with one of the greatest conversations ever to have taken place on Twitter. There’s currently a trend in the social media departments of some of our well known consumer facing brands which takes customer engagement (not necessarily service) to a whole new level and it has certainly caught peoples attention. This particular thread all started with the tweet below. Click the image to see the whole thing!

Next up is a video that went viral earlier in the year, but it seems to be doing the rounds again and is more than worthy of a place in this list. It’s the story of 17 year old Zach Sobiech, and it’s one of the saddest yet beautiful and inspiring things you’ll see for a while.

Next up is a collection of experimental self-portrait photographs from photographer, Kyle Thompson . He drew inspiration for the project from his anxiety which makes it difficult for him to communicate with other people and the results are stunning. Click the image to see the whole collection.

Next up is our viral of the week… This video by Degage Ministries was posted online on 7th November and in just a week has had nearly 14 million hits!

This next collection of images is a little slice of genius, aptly named ‘guns replaced with thumbs up’. Need I say any more? Click the image to see the entire collection.

I bet you’ve never heard the Russian police singing Daft Punk? Well all that is about to change and I don’t really know what else to say. But whatever they were trying to do seems to have worked, as the video has had nearly two and half million hits on YouTube and 37,630 likes compared to just 1,647 dislikes. Well played Russia, well played.

Well that pretty much wraps things up and that can only mean one thing… It’s nearly the weekend! Look around you, see all those people staring blankly at their computer screens, sinking deeper into their swivel chairs? Well in a few hours chances are that some of them will be making out with each other on the dance floor in Infernos in a sambuca fuelled Friday night office romance.  It could even be you…

Have a great weekend!

The fact that it’s Friday can mean only one thing… It’s time for Quad’s Best of the Internet! *marching band* *cheer leaders*

Quite a few things have caught our attention this week on the web, so I think I’ll start with the most current, the John Lewis Christmas Advert.

Personally I’m not a fan, I think there’s been too much of a departure from the ‘relatability’ of their previous Christmas campaigns, which is what made them great, and that this years storyline is rubbish. So sorry about that, but here is the video nonetheless so you can make your own decision!

Pretty lame, right! Now check out the alternate ending and I think you’ll agree we have a clear winner…

Up next is a diagram, a flowchart if you will… Finally definitive instructions of where to post all the different kinds of thoughts you’re dying to share!

Now you know, so no excuses!

Some brands go to real extremes to ensure their adverts are seen and gain traction. From smashing mirrors in front of ‘unsuspecting victims’ in bathrooms to promote road safety, to a telekinetic coffee shop prank to promote the film Carrie, advertisers are really starting to push boundaries with social responsibility. Sooner or later there is going to be a spoof, and it’s landed, perfectly executed by Toronto based Ad agency, John St. Check out their video below!

Now on to our most viral video of the week. Each Halloween, American late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmell asks parents to film telling their kids that they’ve eaten all of their trick or treating candy. The video was uploaded on the 4th November and has already accrued a staggering 16 million hits on YouTube!

Next up is an article titled, The 30 Most Powerful Images Ever . I’d agree it’s a a pretty spot on description. Here’s just one to get you started…

powerful-photos-29

And finally, I’ll swiftly lift the mood with this hilarious video titled Bad British Basketball Commentary!

That’s it for this week, which can only mean one thing… It’s ever so nearly the weekend!

You see everyone sitting around you staring blankly into the pixels on their computer screens? Well in a couple of hours they’ll all be twerking their way up Brick Lane, kebab in hand.

It’s Friday!

As is tradition, on the last Friday of every week, we like to pull together our most favourite of findings from our week on the web. And this week is no different!

Let’s start proceedings with something from across the pond. The Ohio State University Marching Band are well known for their incredible performances, but this surely has to top them all!

Up next is a Kickstarter project by graphic designer, Sam Barclay. He’s created a beautiful design led book to raise awareness around dyslexia. Check out the video and head over to the Kickstarter page to learn more about it.

Virgin make great adverts, always have done, always will. This time however they’ve tried their hand at jazzing up one of the more boring parts of flying… the in-flight safety briefing. Needless to say they absolutely nailed it, accruing nearly 3 million hits on YouTube in just a couple of days!

If you like a scare then this next one is for you… Expedia have located the very best hotels to experience a spooky last minute escape. From ex-prisons to haunted castles, ancient hideaways to rooms with secret pasts, their list is sure to inspire haunting experiences across the globe!

Expedia Haunted Hotels

And now for our Tumblr of the week, it’s ! You read that right… Essentially it’s a bunch of teenagers taking the opportunity to pose for a quick snap while bidding farewell to Grandad, but it certainly makes for interesting viewing!

Selfies at Funerals

Selfies at Funerals

And that pretty much sums it up for this week, which can only mean one thing… It’s nearly the WEEKEND!

Look around at your colleagues mindlessly scrolling through Buzzfeed, counting down the minutes until they can clock off. Just be aware that In a few hours they’ll be screaming power ballads in a bar in Camden with their ties round their heads.

Have a great weekend!
