It’s Friday!

So, what has been happening on the Internet this week?

Firstly, we discovered this video simply titled ‘Box’, which explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping onto moving surfaces. It’s one of the most mind blowing things we’ve seen in ages!

Next up is our TUMBLR OF THE WEEK!

This week, London played host to Social Media Week, therefore it only makes sense that our Tumblr of the week is this piece of genius, . It popped up right at the beginning of the week and immediately started flying around Twitter with its naming and shaming of the kind of inane content people feel the world needs to know… Here are a few favourites!

ZOMG SMWLDN INSIGHTS FTW ZOMG SMWLDN INSIGHTS FTW 2 ZOMG SMWLDN INSIGHTS FTW 3

Los Angeles based sister act, HAIM, have unveiled their new album, Days are Gone , online and it’s definitely one to look out for in the coming months. Views on the album are mixed here at Quad HQ, but it’s still worth a listen and you can let us know your thoughts!

One for the Londoners amongst us… The 21 greatest moments in the life of a Londoner.

Next is this short documentary exploring what it’s like to ponder our existence once you’ve returned from outer space. If you have a few minutes, it’s well worth a watch.

That’s it for this week, and we all know what that means… It’s oh so nearly the weekend! A few more minutes and the spreadsheets will be no more, the world will be your oyster, and this will be you defining the word dance in Ministry of Sound.

Have a great weekend!

High five, it’s FRIDAY!

tumblr_mpm3bpRYnn1su4cb8o1_500

As is the Quad way, on the last day of every week, AKA Friday, we like to round up and showcase some of the more interesting, funny, heart wretching, stimulating and mind boggling stuff we’ve found on the Internet during the week!

This week we’ll start with a true British icon, Monty Python! But like you’ve never seen it before…

Next up is our Tumblr of the week! *cue fireworks*

It’s called , and is described as ‘food reviews and tales from one man’s food adventures’. Essentially what it is, is a hilarious and refreshing take on just another food blog… So if you have a few minutes then I really do advise that you get stuck in!

tumblr_mtduktBuJd1qlf54xo1_500

Next up, we have an artists impression of where nightmares are born … Dave Devries takes children’s drawings and recreates them realistically so that we can really see what goes on inside our children’s heads. Here are couple to get you going…

Next up is an article which I’m pretty sure the entire world has read by now, but it’s a great article and therefore deserves its spot in such a highly regarded round up of the Internet…

The article is aptly named ‘ Why Generation Y Yuppies Are Unhappy ‘ and that’s pretty much all the introduction it needs. Enjoy!

These words are probably unfurling inside one of many open tabs on your computer screen. Perhaps one tab is for work, one is for chatting, and another is for Twitter. You probably even have some others open for no particular reason. This is the way we receive information and the way we communicate now: constantly, simultaneously, compulsively, endlessly, and more and more often, solitarily. This strange new mode of living–and its indelible effect on our humanity–is perfectly captured in Noah , a short film set entirely on a teenagers computer screen, that debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival and illustrates the flitting attention span and lack of true connection in digital culture more clearly than anything else in recent memory.

Warning: mildly NSFW

And finally let’s all just take a moment to appreciate this insane vehicle interception…

That’s it for this week, we’re merely minutes away from the weekend! Take a look around you… see all those people tapping away at their keyboards, well in a matter of hours they’re all going to be 6 Jägers in and lighting up the dance floor in Liquid.

It’s FRIDAY!

fck-yeah-its-friday-gifs-20

Another week conquered… Therefore we must cast our line into the metaphorical ocean that is the Internet and see what comes to the surface!

First of all, we have American late night TV host, Jimmy Fallon, and his adaptation of Breaking Bad, Joking Bad…

Next up, we have the history of Ryan Gosling depicted in this illustrated poster by graphic designer and friend of Quad, ! If you like what you see, you can buy it …

This video of an American chap coming round after surgery and confusedly questioning his wife about whether or not she really is his wife is equally as beautiful as it is hilarious…

Arcade Fire have always been a band who push the boundaries of creativity both musically and in their supporting content. This time however, they’ve taken it to a different level entirely with their latest immersive music video experience, Just a Reflektor. It’s described as an interactive short film that explores the themes in Arcade Fire’s “Reflekor” through two devices simultaneously: the computer and the smartphone / tablet.

Check it out,  but you’ll need a webcam and a smartphone in order for it to work.

Miley Cyrus has once again been creating a storm with her continued insanity… First the VMAs and now she’s released a video of her riding naked on a wrecking ball… As you do. Anyway, inevitably the trolls took hold immediately and this piece of genius was born…

And as an added bonus, here she is riding a dolphin!

SNF13BIZB---_1807872a

Well that’s it for this week! The weekend is oh so nearly upon us! Look around you, see all those people… In a few hours you’ll all be ‘avin it large to Fat Boy Slim in your local drinking facility…

Content Marketing: Why it should be a community effort

September 12, 2013 in Blogging , Content , Content Creation , Content Marketing

Content Marketing hinges on the simple notion that your audience will engage and interact with your brand as long as the content you provide is relevant to their needs, of a high-quality and is provided regularly. The question is: how is it possible to do this?

The answer: it gets easier when your network begins to grow.

Reaching a position where your audience is engaged with your brand at such a level to help create your content is seen as the Holy Grail for many companies. Why? Because it affords you the luxury of being able to depend on your supporters to talk you up as well as bring new ideas into the mix, from the other side of the table. After all, a community that feels their thoughts and ideas really matter, are more likely to champion the brand.

While the content might need a little work in order to bring it into line with your style guide and editorial tone, the difference in voice can be refreshing. The change of tone will be a welcome change for your readers, and the value of having one loyal fan sing your praises to others is substantial. Marketing basics commends the strength of word of mouth – using consumer generated content is, essentially, the digital version of this age-old practice. In a conducted by Nielsen, 92 percent of 28,000 participants across 56 countries stated that they would trust word of mouth recommendations from their family and friends over all other forms of advertising, in other words, ‘earned’ media is worth its weight in gold.

So, how do you go about creating these meaningful relationships with your potential brand ambassadors and guest bloggers?

First of all, make it abundantly clear that user generated content is an invaluable commodity when looking to gain fresh insight and perspective into your audience wants and needs, and that you’re keen to introduce it as such so to give your audience credit where it’s due.

Another key point is to consider the kind and level of audience engagement you’re asking for. Is it a simple testimonial, an image, or perhaps it’s something a little more involved. While the number of submissions will usually decrease with the amount of effort required, those people who do take time to prepare a quality submission are more likely to align themselves closely with your brand and are a valuable resource to hold on to. With this in mind, it’s essential to look at the quality of the content, rather than just the quantity.

Competitions are also highly beneficial as a way of incentivising a request for user generated content. One successful example of this comes from IMEDEEN. In 2012, the beauty brand launched a competition to find women to represent its range of anti-ageing skincare supplements. The brand launched the competition globally, asking for those with ‘natural beauty’ that belies their age to come forward. Paired with a highly efficient PR campaign, the competition was given a great amount of exposure. The results? Three winners (and brand ambassadors) from Brazil, Scotland and Corsica and a wealth of content.

Much of the content world has taken well to the practice of teaming up with others in their industry. Many content marketers provide a great example of this when they call on others in similar roles to enrich their sites with guest posts and interaction. It’s refreshing to see camaraderie within an industry and readers will find the change in tone and pace a welcome break from brand rivalry.

With content acting as the lynch pin in Digital Marketing, it’s important to make these connections with your brand’s fanbase to keep your site and social activity as fresh as possible.

Friday, boom! We made it!

fck-yeah-its-friday-gifs-19

Now give yourself a pat on the pack, slide down your chair, breathe in deeply, and enjoy this week’s Best of the Internet… You’ve earned it!

Our first slice of Internet wonderment takes us to Buzzfeed for some More Middle Class Problems , which of course, we all suffer from…

It’s even better because friend of Quad and general Wonder Woman, , made the list! Check it out…

enhanced-buzz-26324-0-1

Most people would probably agree that Buzzfeed can be a HELL of a distraction at work… But there are some jobs out there, take for example being an astronaut, where you’d think distractions would at all times be a no go… Wrong.

, our Tumblr of the week, reveals transcipts from Apollo 11, during their mission to the moon and back…

Next up we have a spoof music video fresh out of Norway… And when I say fresh, I mean it was uploaded to YouTube 3 days ago and has already racked up over 2 million views! The most important fact, however, is that it’s about a fox, and foxes are awesome.

An old classic now, in the form of David Thorne’s, 27bslash6 . Essentially he winds up his co-workers, neighbours and businesses via email and documents it all on his site… It’s very funny and well worth a read!

neighbour_letter

And last but not least we’re going to have to re-enter the world of Buzzfeed for 28 Pictures That Prove Dreams Do Come True . Good luck staying dry eyed through this one!

Right, that’s it for this week! We can all rest safe in the knowledge that it’s almost officially the weekend which means in a couple of hours, this will be you just letting it all go in Oceana…

Monday Motivation

What makes us remarkable.

It isn’t our talent that makes us remarkable, it’s our passion, our heart and our willingness to fail. We aren’t interested in cold perfection. We strive to get results and we kick ourselves when the outcome doesn‘t cut it, but the important thing is we aren’t afraid to try. We learn from our mistakes, pick ourselves up and throw ourselves straight back into the game.

Fight the Machine. It will destroy us.

There is a never ending production line effortlessly churning out buildings, businesses, cars and crafts and it does it well. With the world wrapped tightly around its middle finger like sheep we follow, we consume. But there are some things the machine will never do. It will never struggle or strain to exert itself, and it will not rise above its circumstance. We will rise above the machine, we will act outside of what’s expected of us to achieve greatness.

Lose your excuses and dance.

Ideas scare people. They break out in a sweat, turn red and splutter any number of reasons not to be creative. So why bother telling them? Chances are you’re going to get shot down anyway. So instead, just do it. Make your idea even crazier, come up with ridiculous additions and variations. Think up insane ways to go about making it happen. Always tell yourself to go for it, even when you don’t. You should listen to you more often. People will follow, ideas will expand and results will be achieved. You are not alone.

Why not reach for the stars?

Apparently you’re supposed to feel like a failure if you don’t. But why? What does it really mean? Should we all go outside, stand on our tip toes and stretch, stretch, stretch as high as we possibly can? I don’t think so. Reaching for the stars won’t get you very far. I think you’re better off reaching for a telescope and pointing it in their general direction.

That’s how most remarkable things are discovered and invented. Not by insanely reaching for the untouchable, but by sanely taking hold of the things in front of us and discovering remarkable things to do with them. One day you might even walk on Mars.

But what do I know?
